Turnberry Golf Club regularly plays host to the British Open, and has forged this course’s reputation as one of the world’s greatest Championship venues.

It is located at the southern most end of a majestic series of links in Ayrshire, and offers a splendid view over the Isle of Arran, the dark and mysterious Mull of Kintyre and the rock of Ailsa.

This is Scottish links golf at its finest. After an almost innocent first few holes, you soon find the sea down the left for the eight most spectacular holes with the famous lighthouse, but the finish is no less gripping.

Turnberry Golf Club simply has to be experienced at least once in a lifetime, and is one of the finest golf holiday venues in Scotland.

The Ailsa course is challenging, untamed Scottish golf at its best, a course to savour from end to end, without worrying too much about your card.

Polls now regularly acknowledge the Ailsa course as one of Britain’s top three courses, confirmation that gives it eminence worldwide, and with it’s new handsome clubhouse the course looks even more amazing.

From there until the short 11th, the Ailsa follows the shoreline, the fifth to the 8th framed by dunes and the 9th, 10th and 11th flanked by craggy rocks. The coastal golfing stretches extending to include the Kintyre’s 8th and 9th.

The 5th requires a controlled rive to bring the green within comfortable range in two. The sixth calls the tree shot, invariable with wood, which must carry all the way to the green. The 7th is a classic par 4 where lovely, natural terrain forms the dogleg, while there are few harder seconds’ shots in a cross-wind than that to the eighth.
